Where it has been suggested by your child’s primary school that your child may benefit from an additional transition visit to meet key staff and experience what an academy day is like, arrangements have been made for this to take place between 11:30am and 2pm. Primary schools will be responsible for transporting students to/from the academy that day.
NB. This is strictly by invite only. Those students who have been invited to attend will receive a letter by post.
The Principal’s presentations will be at 5pm and 5:45pm. The evening will provide you with essential information about arrangements for your child’s transition days at the academy as well as expectations and arrangements for September. Members of the Senior Leadership Team, Inclusion/SEND Team and next year’s Year 7 Learning Manager will also be available to answer questions.
Year 6 students will spend four days in the academy familiarising themselves with their new school. Students should arrive at the academy for 8:30am in their primary school uniform. The day will finish at 2:20pm (10 minutes before the rest of the academy). Please note that due to health and safety legislation, Year 6 students cannot ride on the academy bus during transition. Parents/carers will be responsible for delivering and collecting their children from the academy.
During these four days, students will have the opportunity to meet with staff and other students, experience some lessons, become familiar with the academy site and watch former primary school students, now in Year 8, take part in the prestigious Year 8 Graduation ceremony. Time will also be set aside for students to be measured for their new uniform.
All students are required to remain in the academy over lunchtime, which will be served in the Dining Room. We offer both hot food and sandwiches, and all students will be offered a free meal over each of the transition days. Alternatively, students may bring a packed lunch with them.
Should your child need to take any prescribed medication on any of the transition days, an adult will need to bring this into the academy to the Student Information Desk and complete a medication form giving academy staff written consent to administer it.
Below are copies of the Principal’s letter to Year 6 parents/carers and the Information Booklet which includes several forms, printed on lilac paper. These need to be completed and returned to the academy before your child starts in September. Please bring as much of this information as possible to the Parent Information Evening on Tuesday, 16 June 2020. If you are unable to attend this event, we kindly ask that these forms be posted or hand delivered to the academy by 16 June 2020. Should you have any questions in the interim, please contact the academy using the contact details below.
During transition, students will be measured for their academy uniform. Each new starter will receive a free uniform starter pack which should be collected from the academy on Monday, 27 July 2020 at the following times:
Trutex will be available between these hours to assist with any queries, such as incorrect sizing or missing items. In addition, uniform will be available to purchase/order and will be delivered to your home address.
If you are unable to collect your child’s uniform on this day, the academy will be open daily during the summer holidays from 8am to 4pm (3:30pm on Fridays). Please use the bell at the Student Entrance to summon a member of staff who will assist. Please note, uniform will not be available to collect before 27 July 2020. It is your responsibility to collect your child’s uniform before their start date in September. Uncollected uniform will not be posted home.
